ASML’s October report raised the sales floor, not the ceiling
Profit beat estimates, but the harder test is whether long-dated customer interest becomes orders ASML can fill.
ASML raised its forecast after a mixed quarter
ASML’s 2026-10-14 report gave the street two different answers. The company reported Q3 net sales of €11.66 billion, below the €11.72 billion estimate. It reported Q3 net profit of €4.96 billion, above the €4.1 billion estimate. ASML then lifted the lower end of its 2026 net-sales forecast to €44 billion from €43 billion, while leaving the €45 billion upper end unchanged. The company narrowed the range; it did not raise the ceiling.
ASML had already raised that forecast in July. The October change matters less as another upward arrow than as a distinction between what ASML can sell now and what customers say they may need later. In the 2026-10-14 Reuters report, ASML said it could not fully meet AI-driven tool demand in 2027 and 2028. It also described strong interest in orders for 2029 and 2030. Interest is not a booked order, and a booked order is not a delivered machine. The AI-capex chain reaches ASML through chipmakers that must turn their own plans into equipment purchases.
ASML’s filed cash record supports a narrower claim
ASML entered this report with more annual cash generation, not with a filed answer to the future capacity gap. Per its FY2025 10-K, revenue was $32.7 billion, versus $28.3 billion per the FY2024 10-K. Per the FY2025 10-K, operating cash flow was $12.7 billion, against $11.2 billion per the FY2024 10-K. Yet ASML’s FY2025 capital expenditure was $1.6 billion per the FY2025 10-K, down from $2.1 billion per the FY2024 10-K.
Those dollar-denominated annual filing rows establish cash generation and spending. They do not measure how many machines ASML or its suppliers can complete in 2028. The evidence here contains no as-filed Q3 2026 cash-flow line to bridge that gap. Nor should anyone splice the annual dollar rows to the October euro sales report and call the result growth. In a September interview, ASML described a supply chain spanning about 2,000 companies; the record gives no prior count for comparison. The street still needs evidence of output, not a shortcut from last year’s capex.
China’s quarter resisted the simple export-control story
ASML’s geographic mix also refused a straight line. The 2026-10-15 report put Q3 China sales 109% above Q2 and China’s share of machine sales at 23%, up from 14% in Q2. ASML still expected China to account for about 20% of total 2026 sales. A quarterly machine-sales share and a full-year total-sales forecast have different denominators. The Q3 jump does not, by itself, overturn the full-year guide.
The swing also needs its earlier baseline. South Korea supplied 45% of ASML’s Q1 2026 net system sales, up from 22% in the preceding quarter, and overtook China. Dutch export controls published in 2023 remain part of the record. So do machines acquired before the October report: a Center for Technology & Statecraft account put ASML’s share at about 270 of roughly 343 DUV immersion tools acquired by Chinese fabs by early 2026. The China AI stack story is both a sales-mix question and an installed-equipment question. Neither measure alone settles the other.
ASML has not shown that buyers accepted higher prices
ASML’s place in the lithography chokepoint does not remove negotiation. A July report citing sources said ASML had discussed higher EUV prices with TSMC and planned to charge 10% more for DUV systems than before. The same report said TSMC was resisting. The October profit beat does not establish that TSMC accepted those terms or that ASML collected them. ASML controls a hard-to-replace production step; its buyers still control purchase timing and can contest price.
ASML still owes the record three confirmations
TEXXR’s ASML coverage record counted 14 articles about the company in 2026Q3, 1.4 times the trailing eight-quarter average of 10 articles per quarter. That measures what publishers covered, not how many tools ASML shipped. Coming out of the 2026-10-14 report, the useful checks are narrower:
- Orders: Do publishers document firm orders for 2029 or 2030, rather than repeating ASML’s reported customer interest? Do later reports show deliveries against the 2027–2028 demand ASML says it cannot fully meet?
- Mix: Does coverage confirm China near ASML’s roughly 20% full-year 2026 sales expectation, or document another change in the quarterly machine-sales share? Keep those denominators separate.
- Price: Does a buyer or ASML confirm an accepted EUV or DUV increase after the reported TSMC resistance? A proposed price is not a realized one.
